This painting depicts the actual colouring of dawn captured from the foreshore of Waiake beach in Torbay on Auckland’s North Shore. The local landmark, the tor and the nearby foreshore still have the night blackness as the sky, water and beach become God’s palette. The painting captures the myriad of colours and blends in the water on a moving “canvas.” The message at the edge of the ebbing tide in this painting comes from Psalm 112 v 4 and reads: Even in darkness light dawns for the upright.
